Ken Runyon began his career in golf as a caddy in Los Angeles, California, starting in the bag room of Bel Air Country Club. Ken learned much of the golf trade from some of the world’s best recognized players and teachers, most notably Eddie Merrins “The Little Pro”. Eddie was Head Professional in those days and worked with Ken from the beginning. “Mr. Merrins” is considered one of the great teaching pros of all time; an accomplished touring pro, then head professional at Bel Air CC from 1962, (now emeritus). He also coached a winning UCLA golf team to a national championship in 1988. Ken has worked closely with Tom Bertrand, author of the “The Secret of Hogan’s Swing”. Tom has coached Indonesia’s own Rory Hei and is one of the few instructors today to possess important insight into the greatest ball striker of all time, Ben Hogan.
Director of Accel Junior Golf Academy, Ken and his team at Accel have a unique approach to golf instruction. More than teaching the golf swing, “We provide a golf academy experience that is effective and lasting.” Unlike conventional methods of so many teaching ‘pros’ today, our system and style of coaching keeps our students engaged, focused and having fun. “Sorry, we do not focus on ‘arm rotation’, ‘weight transfer’, ‘ball flight laws’ or ‘release’ of the club head”. Ken is a proud member of the USGA and is active in the local golfing community in Jakarta. Ken writes golf instruction articles, published monthly in OB Magazine and NOW! Jakarta. His book, an illustrated golf instruction textbook, is widely used in schools, for on-campus golf programs. What’s in the bag? Ken is sponsored by Mizuno Golf and maintains a single digit handicap with MP-53 irons, 8 degree Taylor Made R1 driver and Odyssey White Hot- Pro putter.
